Fighting for People, NOT the Billionaires - 2026 Victorian State Election
Upcoming Events
What we stand for
Billionaires and corporations are ripping us off. One third of large corporations don’t pay a single dollar of tax. They get massive hand-outs from us – the taxpayers
The major parties are failing to address declining living standards and the increased cost-of-living as thousands of people struggle to rent or buy a home, afford healthcare or even to find well paid work.
As workers battle with increasing fuel costs, food and the basics, corporations and billionaires - like those in the gas industry - are supported by governments to drive up costs and make huge profits.
Governments at all levels are failing to address the needs of the community.
We need a real political alternative, not the hypocrites from One Nation or far right politicians who blame immigrants for the lack of housing while accepting handouts from billionaires and representing their interests. They use racism to steer people away from putting the blame where it lies - on the billionaires.
Imagine a world where the vast wealth that is produced in our state was directed to public health, education and transport instead of weapon’s manufacturing, the police and corporate subsidies to the rich.
Capitalism is incapable of solving the climate crisis or reversing growing inequality.
We need community and workplace campaigns based on social justice and solidarity.
Socialist Alliance has been at the forefront of grassroots campaigns to end Australia’s support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza and opposing the destruction of public housing.
We are running in the upcoming State Election to give a voice to the aspirations of working people who want better than what’s being offered.
Electing a socialist to parliament, who will live on a worker’s wage, can help win change and amplify the voice for these campaigns.
Community need for health, education & transport
Socialist Alliance believes that the Victorian State Labor government should prioritise the needs of ordinary people before business interests, directing our shared wealth to the community first.
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- Public education and TAFEs that are fully funded and resourced where good wages are paid and teachers and support workers are not overworked.
- A health care system that is free with fully funded public hospitals, community health centres, mental health services and expanded public dental care.
- Reintroduction of publicly funded disability services to fix gaps in NDIS support.
- A free, fully accessible public transport system, expanded rail and bus services especially to regional centres and poorly serviced metropolitan areas including guaranteed weekend and nighttime services and duplication of all single track lines, like the Upfield train line.
- No support for outsourcing of public services.
Housing for all
The price of housing continues to skyrocket and thousands of people can’t afford to buy or rent a home. This is a deliberate result of government policy that prioritises the interests of landlords and property developers ahead of ordinary people. This state government could play a leading role in addressing the housing crisis, but instead they are destroying what remains of public housing and giving hand outs to property developers.
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- An immediate freeze on rents for 10 years. Public and social housing rents to be no more than 20% of a renter’s income
- Ending the demolition of public housing estates and ending the transfer of public housing into community housing
- 100,000 new public housing dwellings to be built and upgrades to existing public housing
- Elimination of land banking by taxing vacant land and housing
- Forcing developers to allocate 20% of units to public housing. Establish a state-owned body to provide low-interest home loans.
No dollars for war
This State government wants Victoria to be a leading hub for weapons manufacturing. They are handing millions of dollars to weapons manufacturers instead of investing in hospitals, schools and manufacturing public transport or for climate action. This is our money being spent on fighter jets. There must be no dollars for war.
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- Ending state government support for investment in weapon’s companies in Victoria.
- An end to government support for the genocide in Gaza.
- No state government support for the $368 billion AUKUS agreement. The money should be redirected to public services
- Stop funding weapons companies, whose weapons end up being used against civilians such as Palestinians
Stop attacks on democratic rights
Our democratic rights are increasingly under attack. Protecting and maintaining our right to protest through peaceful public action is essential to holding those in power accountable. While defending the rights of minorities and those who suffer from discrimination and racism, especially First Nations people and those experiencing Islamophobia, must be safeguarded.
We must stand together with our allies and stop the elite and powerful from dividing us.
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- Protecting the right to protest and free speech
- No attacks on unions and worker’s rights, especially the undemocratic attacks against the CFMEU. Remove the unfair wage cap on state public sector workers
- Supporting the Treaty with First Nations - First Nations control of First Nations’ affairs
- Closing the gap in First Nations health, education, employment and housing and implementing all recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody
- Raising the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 16, stop jailing children under the age of 16. Provide early intervention support to children and families
Protect the Environment and Act on Climate
As global temperatures rise and catastrophic climate events worsen, this state government must increase its support for a just transition to publicly owned green energy industries and transport not the privatised fossil fuel industries they currently prop up. The Victorian government must protect our environment, forests, marine and all natural spaces while compensating those workers and communities displaced by the transition and fundamentally putting people and planet before profit.
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- Ending all subsidies and tax breaks to fossil fuels companies to fund green energy renewables and jobs. No new coal or gas projects. Ban unconventional gas and phase out fossil fuels by 2035.
- Bringing the energy industry back into public ownership.
- A transition plan that guarantees alternative jobs for workers with no loss of pay as fossil fuel power stations close down. The Latrobe Valley to become a manufacturing hub for renewable energy.
- Ending land clearing and logging of native forests and important water catchments and transitioning to plantation timbers. Increasing support for alternative jobs in logging communities.
- Providing more parks and green spaces in urban areas, including wildlife corridors.
- Rejection of polluting waste incinerators and disposal of toxic waste.
Don't let racism and discrimination divide us
Racism and discrimination are used to distract us from fighting for real solutions to issues that impact on our lives like the housing crisis and access to services and jobs. Racism and discrimination are used to divert us from focusing on the fact that the politicians from the far right and One Nation to the Liberals/Nationals and the Labor Party are in league with the billionaire class
Socialist Alliance campaigns for:
- Ending all racism, discrimination and Islamophobia.
- Ending discrimination against those communities that are especially targeted by the far-right such as First Nations, Islamic, the LGBTIQA+ and people with a disability
- Stopping racial profiling and over-policing of communities.
- Eliminating violence against women. Expanding funding to women’s refuges and community anti-violence programs and providing evidence based consent education in schools
- Support for refugees and migrants, especially into skill shortage areas
SA pledges to only take average workers’ wage
Socialist Alliance MPs would only take an average worker’s wage, allocating a slab of the high parliamentary wage into people-powered campaigns.
