Andrew Chuter

Andrew Chuter is a mathematics teacher at the University of Sydney, father of two teenagers, apartment dweller, and cyclist. He is an active member of the National Tertiary Education Union and is heavily involved in community groups campaigning for more livable cities.

He was the President of the Friends of Erskineville for 5 years, during which time he has been central to winning campaigns for better active and public transport infrastructure. He is also a committee member of Action for Public Housing, organising petitions, public forums and protests.

“I’m passionate about making our cities sustainable and affordable. We must urgently reduce carbon emissions from transport by increased investment in public and active transport. And we need a big expansion of public housing, not more demolition and privatisation. The lessons of the Green Bans era show that when unions and resident action groups work together, lasting positive change can happen.”
