2027 New South Wales state election

The current profits-first system ignores social need. From the overloaded health system to deteriorating school infrastructure to antiquated public transport, the public sector is being run into the ground.

Socialist Alliance stands with Waterloo public housing tenants fighting to protect their homes from NSW Labor's demolition plan.

Steve O’Brien, a lifelong peace activist, trade unionist and socialist, is the Socialist Alliance candidate for Newcastle.

Steve was an ironworker at the steelworks for many years and retrained to work at TAFE. Steve was a delegate in the ironworkers union and more recently a union delegate in the NSW Public Service Association where he was an elected to the TAFE delegates Council and the union's governing body, the Central Council.

He has also been an aid worker in Central America, the former East Timor and Southern Africa.

Coral Wynter is a retired biochemist who worked in colon cancer research. She is a long-time socialist activist who has been active in campaigns for climate action and Latin American solidarity. She has led several solidarity brigades to Venezuela and supported solidarity campaigns with Cuba, Nicaragua and El Salvador. 

James Wyner works in industrial textile manufacturing and is an occasional contributor to Green Left. He is active in workplace rights campaigns and passionate about climate and ecological issues.

Gabrielle McCutcheon works in disability support and is campaigning against Labor's decision to cut funds to the National Disability Insurance Scheme. 

Olivia Carney is an activist with roots in the anti-globalization movement and currenly active in the Palestine solidarity movement. She is passionate about ethical tech, youth justice, labour and disability rights.

Rohan Fraser lives in Port Stephens. He was a member of the textile division of the CFMEU for many years and more recently was a full-time carer for a close family member. He holds masters degrees in business and information technology.

Jim McIlroy is a veteran socialist and movement activist, residing in Chippendale. He became involved in the anti-Vietnam War movement in the 1960s, and in many campaigns since then. 

Jim joined the socialist movement in the 1970s, and has been deeply involved in Socialist Alliance since its founding in 2001. As a public servant, he was also a union delegate with the Community and Public Sector Union until his retirement. 

Arlo Valmai is a cabinet maker and former child care educator. They're a renter in Sydney and involved in housing justice campaigns with Action for Public Housing and the Better Future Coalition.

Karyn Brown is a public housing activist who has been resisting Coalition and Labor state governments attempts to demolition the Waterloo public housing estate. She is active in Action for Public Housing. 

Rachel Evans is the Socialist Alliance candidate for Heffron. She is active in the defend public housing campaign, as part of Action for Public Housing, which is fighting off demolition threats in Waterloo.

She was one of the founders of the grassroots marriage equality campaign in Sydney, and is a journalist with Green Left. She is a disability support worker and supports feminist and trans rights campaigning in NSW.
