Re-elect Sue Bolton; vote socialist in Victorian elections; support the campaign

The Sue Bolton Moreland Team accepts no donations from developers

Postal ballots for the Victorian local government elections have started going out from the beginning of this week.

We'd like to urge you to vote socialist if at all possible in your area and encourage your friends in Victoria to do likewise if you live interstate.

Socialist Alliance is part of the Sue Bolton Moreland Team running in every ward of Moreland. We're hoping to re-elect Sue Bolton to the council and expand the representation of socialists and left wing community activists.

Socialist Alliance member Sarah Hathway is also running for the Windermere ward of Geelong Council.

In addition to Moreland and Geelong, there are socialist candidates running in Darebin, Hume, Marribyrnong, Melbourne City and Yarra. We'd encourage you to vote socialist wherever you can and vote for Greens and other progressives where you can't.

If you don't live in Victoria, you can still help this effort by:

* advising your Victorian friends about the socialist candidates standing and encouraging support for these campaigns

* donating to support the campaign: we still need more funding for final social media advertising and other expenses and your contribution will make a big difference. [Transfer to: Socialist Alliance, BSB: 063262 Acct: 10245639, or use the McCause link.]

* sharing social media posts like this one to help spread the word

If you live in Victoria and want to help the campaign, please contact Socialist Alliance (ph Jacob 0458 958 385) to get involved.

There will also be an online Meet the Candidates forum on Thursday, info here.

MORE INFORMATION:

Sue Bolton was elected as a Moreland councillor in 2012 and has a proud record of fighting for the rights of the community. Sue has consistently voted against the outsourcing of council services, rates increases above inflation, Zero Parking developments and attempts to reduce community say over developments, and always votes in favour of emergency climate actions, social justice and democratic rights, and holds regular residents meetings to keep everyone informed. If re-elected Sue will continue to fight for affordable housing in Moreland, more amenities in local parks, an end to fossil fuel use, a council-run food bank, expansion of safe cycling infrastructure public transport improvements and preservation of urban wildlife habitat, and will oppose attempts to outsource councils home care services.

Sarah Hathway is a young mother and lives in an area with high levels of disadvantage after subsequent decades of public policy failures from all levels of government. Suburbs in Sarah’s ward are facing unemployment levels of over 20%, higher than the national average during the Great Depression. Sarah is a union organiser in the health sector and has 8 years of organising in the community around funding for public TAFE, against violence towards women and children, workers rights and safety on the job. More recently Sarah has been working with other activists to get Geelong council to declare a climate emergency. If elected Sarah will bring that community organising experience to council to fight for affordable housing, increased tree coverage, expansion and connection of shared trails across the ward and will oppose any attempts to outsource services or sell off council assets.
