The extreme concentration of the banking and financial systems means that ordinary working people lose out on a big scale.

In summary, it is my strong opinion that the perspectives outlined by the "21st Century Socialism Tendency" in its various documents published so far, if implemented, would lead to the complete destruction of the Socialist Alliance (SA) as an organised, national, activist, socialist party.

Socialist Alliance pushed ahead strongly with its campaign to put socialist politics before the Queensland electorate, as the ALP government faced annihilation in the state election held on March 24. Although everyone knew the government was unpopular, the sheer size of the LNP win took all commentators by surprise.

The 8th National Conference of the Socialist Alliance expresses full solidarity with the celebrations for the historic 40th anniversary of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra, from January 26, 2012.

The following contribution is adapted from a report by the same name that I presented to Brisbane branch of Socialist Alliance on December 13.

International situation: 2011, a year of democratic revolt:

The world context for this year has been set, on the one hand by the international capitalist recession, and on the other by the international, popular upsurge for democratic rights and against corporate power.

In the Brisbane Socialist Alliance Branch pre-conference discussion recently, there was some discussion over the usefulness of the concept of "ecosocialism" as a vehicle for building the socialist movement today. I would like to defend the assertion that the term "ecosocialism" is now a vital instrument for reconstructing a mass socialist movement in the current world political situation.

There is an urgent need for a Socialist Alliance "natural disaster" policy in light of Queensland floods, and Victorian bushfires only two years ago. There is a strong likelihood of increased frequency of "natural disasters" in Australia (as part of worldwide trend), related to effects of human-induced climate change.

In context of the likelihood of increased rate of extreme "natural disasters," this merely underlines the urgency of radical action to tackle climate change, led by the Australian government.

Socialist Alliance trade union work continues to advance steadily, as registered at our September 18 national trade union work hook-up.

The Big Four banks must be nationalised so people can take back their stolen wealth and a new public banking system must be created under democratic community control.

"The NSW Coalition government's 2017 budget might be better described as the ‘biggest con-job in the Western world’," Susan Price, Socialist Alliance candidate for Ashfield in the upcoming Inner West Council elections, said on June 21. She was responding to state Treasurer Dominic Perrottet's declaration that his inaugural budget was "the envy of the Western world".

"The Abbott government's proposed back-door GP tax is a massive scam, and should be totally rejected by the whole community," Susan Price, Socialist Alliance candidate for the seat of Summer Hill in the March 2015 NSW state election, said on December 10.

Duncan Storrar — who courageously stood up to the powers-that-be, including the Murdoch media monster — and all those on low and medium wages and incomes, deserves a fair go from the tax system, as well as from the wage, welfare, health and housing system.
