We have been informed by the Labour Party of Pakistan that Baba Jan, Waqar and other activists in Gilgit district jail were severely beaten and tortured by dozens of Rangers, Police and Frontier Constabulary in the early morning of April 28, 2012.

Please convey our strongest solidarity greetings to the Labour Party Pakistan and add our voice to all those demanding the immediate release of Comrade Ammar Ali Jan and the other seven leaders of the LPP currently imprisoned for fighting for the rights of the oppressed masses of Pakistan.

For revolutionaries in the United States, there is no question that our primary responsibility in regard to solidarity with the workers and peasants of Syria is the need to organize against U.S. intervention. No other task is so crucial to ensure self-determination so that Syrians can win their battle for democracy, social justice, and genuine independence.

So are we. We're tired of the ALP/LNP duopoly that consistently delivers less and less for us, and more and more for the big end of town. We're tired of politicians listening to developers and corporates, and ignoring the rest of us.

Draft key policies of the Socialist Alliance Queensland State Election Campaign 2012

Question: What is the RET?

Answer: The RET is a Marxist tendency which operates within the Socialist Alliance (SA). The politics of the RET are briefly summarised in the Platform of the RET.

The RET categorically rejects ecosocialism as theory, concept, ideology and practice. Ecosocialism is a non-socialist idea which is incompatible with the development of the socialist movement as well as the theory of Marxism.

The RET is opposed to the artificial elevation of the green or environmental movement into something which requires strategic adjustments for socialists. Socialists should seek to work with and within the environmental movement in the same manner as which we engage in other social movements.

Model resolution for all types of union meeting

That this meeting of (Name of Union and status of meeting) supports the National Right to Strike Campaign and declares that all Australian law must comply with ILO Conventions 87 and 98. In particular with the guaranteed right to organise and strike at the time chosen, and for the purposes decided upon, by union members. Further, our organisation demands that the ILO Conventions pertaining to workers in unions being free to take solidarity action with other workers by striking, be complied with.

  1. Australian law must comply with the UN's International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions. The ILO states that the right to withdraw labour or to strike underpins our other rights.

During a discussion of the draft Towards a socialist Australia in the Melbourne district meeting, I noted that I had presented a paper “Toward democratic eco-socialism in Australia as part of a global climate change mitigation strategy: a utopian vision” at the Fourth Australian Conference on Utopia, Dystopia and Science Fiction that focused on the theme “Changing the climate: utopia, dystopia and catastrophe” at the Monash University Conference Centre in late 2010.

Below is the thank-you letter that the National Union of Workers sent around to unions and community supporters for their support during the Baiada poultry workers strike.
