Minor amendments to Charter of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Rights

Urgent appeal. Socialist Alliance needs to submit an updated list of over 1500 members to the Australian Electoral Commission to maintain our electoral registration and appear on the ballot at the next federal election. We're asking all existing members and those interested in joining to confirm your willingness to support our electoral enrolment by filling in this form.

Assuming no fuller amended version to the Charter of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Rights policy is submitted — and in lieu of a more thoroughgoing rewrite — I propose the following (mostly minor) amendments:

Change “Prime Minister Rudd's apology to the Stolen Generations on February 13, 2008, was a good start, but more concrete steps have to be taken” to “Former Prime Minister Rudd's apology to the Stolen Generations on February 13, 2008, was a necessary start, but more concrete steps have to be taken.”

Change “Socialist Alliance calls for a target date of 2012 for Aboriginal students to match or better the educational development of Australian students as a whole, and aim for similar targets in health, housing and employment” to “Socialist Alliance calls for a ten-year target for Aboriginal students to match or better the educational development of Australian students as a whole, and aim for similar targets in health, housing and employment.”

Change “After three decades of Land Rights, and 15 years of Native Title” to “After nearly four decades of Land Rights, and 20 years of Native Title”.
