Eighth national conference of Socialist Alliance

Eighth national conference of Socialist Alliance

The Eighth National Conference of the Socialist Alliance will be held in  Sydney, from January 20- 22, 2012.

The National Executive has prepared two documents - a draft general perspectives resolution and a draft statement on socialism. Branches and members should discuss both before the conference. Amendments can be moved at the conference.

Policy submissions should be sent to Alliance Voices. The deadline for submissions is January 7, 2012. Existing policy can be found here.

The conference agenda will include a special public forum with Dick Nichols (SA and Green Left's European desk) on “The Economic Crises in Europe and the Left's Response” on Friday January 20 (Dick will be present in person and this will be a multi-media presentation).

There will also be a report on the international political situation; an Australian political situation report; a building the Socialist Alliance report, voting on resolutions and policy drafts and an election of national office bearers. There will be space for national working group meetings.

Accommodation it can be found here close to the venue (22 Mountain Street, Ultimo).

To be eligible to be a delegate, and to vote, you must be in good financial standing. (If you are unsure of whether you are financial, please get in touch with your local branch.)

The National Executive decided that the ratio of members to delegates is 8:1. The more financial members your branch has, the more delegates you will get.

You can register your attendance at the conference here. The fee structure will be affordable for those on low incomes. In line with our constitution, delegates will be subsidised.
